(1) [Battle of Perception 61. Model Selection Competition (1)]

The TFT, having selected and determined the development direction for approximately 300 product items, diligently focused on development in their respective roles while sharing progress in weekly meetings. Basic skincare products were categorized into mid-to-low, mid-to-high, and premium high-end ranges. The mid-to-low range utilized pre-molded containers from suppliers, applying graphic designs suited to various natural ingredients to create a skin-soothing and moisturizing line. The high-end range featured a high-performance skincare line incorporating phyto-therapy from natural Alpine herbs near France.

The most crucial aspect was the mid-to-high M&C line, which formed a full range of products—including skincare, makeup, body care, and fragrances—aligned with the flagship brand’s Parisian fashion-oriented and sophisticated image. Particularly for makeup products, the risk of overstock was significant, as they could easily become dead inventory. Therefore, Team Leader Shin exercised extreme caution when selecting various product types and colors.

This entire process operated like a high-performance computer network, with marketing, design, packaging development, procurement, and the research lab working in parallel and synchronizing their efforts. At the core of these critical decisions stood Team Leader Shin.

After returning from a business trip, Shin attended the long-awaited TFT meeting. Starting with grilled pork belly and soju, followed by a second round of fried chicken and beer, and concluding with loud singing at a karaoke bar, he indulged in a night of celebration. The next morning, struggling with a throbbing headache, he attempted to shake off the hangover with strong black coffee, but to no avail. Slumping into his chair and tilting his head back behind the cubicle partition, he wished for time to pass quickly until the hangover subsided.

Just then, his phone rang. Jolted from his daze, Shin straightened his posture and answered the call.
“Team Leader Shin, come to my office for a moment. I have some people to introduce to you.”

It was a surprising call from Executive Director Choi, whom he had not visited in a while due to his busy schedule filled with weekly TFT meetings, development tasks, and consumer research. Without delay, Shin headed to the second floor.

Upon entering the office, he saw three unfamiliar individuals seated alongside Section Manager Park from the Gangbuk branch. While Park greeted him warmly, the three others exchanged reserved introductions. Among them, Shin recognized Deputy Manager Song, who had joined the company in the same year as him and had felt like a peer. However, Song had left two years ago to work for another company’s brand shop.

“Team Leader Shin, welcome! You must be very busy these days,” Executive Director Choi said cheerfully, guiding the slightly bewildered Shin to a seat before continuing.

“These four people here will be working closely with you in Sales Division 2 as branch managers and sales directors. Mr. Moon will oversee the Busan region, Mr. Kim will handle Daejeon, and as you already know, Mr. Song will be the director for Gangnam, Seoul. Currently, Section Manager Park from the Gangbuk branch under Sales Division 1 will take charge of Gangbuk for Sales Division 2. We have yet to appoint managers for Gwangju and Daegu, but we plan to recruit top talent from Sales Division 1 to manage these areas, as Sales Division 2 will be exclusively dedicated to brand shop sales.”

After introducing Shin, Executive Director Choi turned to the sales managers and continued,
“As I’ve mentioned to you all before, Team Leader Shin is our company’s rising star, having advanced from the Sales Support Department to his current role as Marketing Team Leader in a vertical promotion. So, don’t think in terms of ‘sales’ or ‘marketing’—just work together as a family and support one another.”

Shin shook hands with each of them, exchanging introductions while internally appreciating the preparation Executive Director Choi had done for structuring Sales Division 2. However, he felt somewhat awkward—standing before a team of branch and sales managers when the products were not even ready yet. With the scent of alcohol still lingering on his breath, he was unsure how to initiate a conversation with them. Unlike his usual confident self, he found himself hesitating.

“Alright, for now, let’s just have some tea and get acquainted. After lunch, even though you’re busy, Team Leader Shin, I’d like you to explain the business overview and future plans to them in detail. How does that sound?”

Seizing the opportunity to escape, Shin responded with a relieved smile.
“Yes, sir. I’ll be ready by 2 p.m. I’ll see you all in the afternoon.”

He quickly left Executive Director Choi’s office and returned to his desk, collapsing into his chair. The hangover made the ceiling seem like it was spinning. – To be continued –
